At Bumerang, we had a big problem: once a container left the warehouse, we lost sight of it. We didn’t know where it was, who had it, or how many times it had been used.
That was a problem—each container was designed to be reused up to 100 times. And without traceability, we couldn’t manage issues like lost or damaged containers, or even keep track of how many were still out there.
Since the app already had a built-in QR scanner, we came up with a solution: give every container its own QR code. To make it more friendly for users, we also gave each one a unique name, linked internally to a technical ID.
This simple system allowed us to track containers in real time, see their full usage history, and gather useful data on how they were being used.
It also opened the door to new ideas—like letting users drop off containers without scheduling anything, or setting up return points around the city.
